Problems with turkeys
Wild turkeys were introduced into California for hunting and are classified as a protected game species. Their eggs and nests are also protected. |
Too many in the neighborhood
Don't feed them. If you're not feeding them, someone else in your neighborhood probably is. Work as a community to reduce the population. Unless everyone in the neighborhood stops offering supplemental food, all efforts at reducing the population will be futile. |
Don't want them in your yard
Motion-activated sprinklers may deter them or try spraying water at them with a hose. Do this repeatedly. Fence your yard. While turkeys can fly well, they prefer to walk and often will not fly over a fence. Get out and make noise when turkeys are in your yard. Do this repeatedly. A dog in the yard will keep turkeys out. |
Roosting in trees at night
Shine lights into the trees at night to encourage them to move to a darker area. |
Note: all of these suggestions require constant and continuous implementation. |
