Problems with pigeons
Pigeon identification
Domestic, feral pigeons are the most common pigeon found in the Bay Area. They have pinkish or reddish legs and can have a wide range of feather color. Band-tail pigeons, our California native pigeon, have yellow legs, even as babies and are a fully protected species . Band-tail pigeon populations are decreasing because of habitat loss.

Pigeons roosting on house

These are domestic pigeons. Use screen or wire to exclude the pigeons from their roost or nest sites. On beams, use crumpled chicken wire or Nixalite ® "needle or porcupine wire" to prevent them from roosting. Other products include Bird-Coil and Daddi Long Leggs from Bird Barrier America or from www.bird-x.com or www.birdsolutions.com.

Do not use gels, pates, "Hot Foot" or sticky deterrents. These are not humane and can harm or kill other birds as well. Non-native pigeons are feral, domestic animals. If they are nesting, remove all nesting materials and destroy the eggs. Then, seal off the area to prevent them from nesting there again.
