Volunteer opportunities
Docents (ages 18+)
Help groups of children and adults learn about wildlife and their habitats. Conduct tours at the museum and visit classrooms with children eager to learn about nature. Take what you learn to special events in the community. Contact the docent manager. |
Exhibit volunteers (ages 18+)
Assist in the production of exhibits and help care for more than 15,000 artifacts and taxidermy specimens in our collection. Knowledge of arts and crafts and/or other natural sciences is helpful. Contact the natural history curator. |
Interpreters (ages 18 - adult)
Want to learn more about native California wildlife? Do you like to interact with people of all ages? Become a volunteer interpreter! Interpretive volunteers educate museum visitors about the animals on exhibit and wildlife in our backyards. In addition to interpreting museum exhibits, you will provide informal and formal public presentations using natural history artifacts and live animals. Contact animal encounters department. |
Office volunteer (ages 18+)
If you would like to help out, but prefer office environments to public spaces, this is the place for you. Assist our office staff with mailings, copying, computer input and preparing hands-on activities for the public. Contact the operations director. |
Museum store (ages 16+)
If you enjoy talking to the public, shopping for the perfect gift and helping people, consider becoming a volunteer for the museum store. Price merchandise, clean and stock the store, assist teachers and other customers and use the register. Contact the store manager. |
Wildlife rehabilitation (Age 18+)
Make a difference! Join our nationally-recognized wildlife rehabilitation team. Learn to raise and rehabilitate orphaned and injured native California wildlife. Training is offered only in the fall/winter Contact the wildlife rehabilitation director. |
