Amphibian wildlife ambassadors
Amphibians are cold-blooded (ectothermic), smooth-skinned vertebrates such as frogs or salamanders, that characteristically hatch as aquatic larvae with gills. The larvae then transform into adults with air-breathing lungs. Some amphibians in our collection have permanent injuries sustained in the wild. Most were taken from the wild and raised as pets. Amphibians taken from the wild may quickly lose their niche and may also acquire diseases they can transmit to other animals. Wild animals do not make good pets.
