Programs in the field
Programs in the field provide unique opportunities for students to explore the natural world through observation and hands-on activities.

Environmental games in the park
Reinforce your grade level science standards and burn off excess energy at the same time. This
1-hour staff-led program takes place in Larkey Park (adjacent to the museum) and can be scheduled before or after your museum visit or as a stand-alone program. Activities vary with the numbers and ages of the students. For more information and reservations, contact the museum education specialist or call 925-627-2922.

Mt. View Sanitary District

This wetlands field trip experience is aligned with California's Science Content Standards for grades 3-5. The 4-hour program includes 3-4 hands-on stations with lots of hiking, observation and exploration. Classroom materials and guidelines for student writing exercises are also provided. Programs are booked Wednesdays through Fridays. One class per day. Free to Contra Costa and Solano county schools only. For information and registration, call Kelly Chou at 925-228-5635 ext. 19.

Dow Wetlands Preserve tour

Covering three quarters of the earth, water is important to all living things. Learn about our water resources, how animals use them and how to protect our wetland habitats. Become familiar with the plants and animals found in the wetlands and explore the watery habitat observing aquatic plants and animals. Activities complement California State Science Standards. Grades 3 and up / 90 minutes
Tuesday & Wednesday 9 am-noon, school year only
Maximum group size 20 students and 6 adult chaperones
  (including the classroom teacher)
Two groups may tour concurrently
Free to east county schools; $160 for all others.
