Save a fox squirrel
Fox squirrel

Fox squirrel
Baby fox squirrels are brought to the hospital because their nest trees are trimmed or cut down, or they fall from their nests, or, when they’re older and starting to explore their environment, they get caught by cats or dogs.

Fox squirrels are always raised in groups so they grow up knowing they’re squirrels. In the beginning specially trained volunteers feed them a special liquid formula. After their eyes open at 4 weeks, we start offering solid foods while still feeding the special formula. By the time they’re about 10 weeks old, the baby squirrels are full weaned and able to eat many of the natural foods they’ll find in the wild.

Housed in large outdoor enclosures, they spend their time practicing those skills they’ll need in the wild—running, jumping and climbing. At about 3 months old, we release them back into the wild.

Cost of care per day: $8.00
I will save this animal for days!
