The organization
The Lindsay Wildlife Museum is a wildlife rehabilitation and educational center that focuses on native California wildlife and natural history. The museum’s live collection of non-releasable animals represents over 50 species of native California wildlife. |
The position
The animal keeper intern will support the goals and mission of Lindsay Wildlife Museum and the Live Collection Department. The position requires a self-motivated, flexible, and responsible individual capable of assisting with the daily operations of the live collection. Daily operations is defined as facility maintenance, animal care, and staff and volunteer assistance. Must be in good physical condition – activities include/require lifting, bending, twisting, stooping, carrying and extensive standing/walking. The animal keeper intern will report to the live collection staff.

Primary responsibilities
- Assist with daily care and maintenance of the live collection
- Assist with daily facility maintenance (i.e. cleaning)
- Stock and prepare food
- Assist with various departmental programs and functions
- Work with a variety of animals within the guidelines of the department

Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older
- Ability to work well with staff and volunteers
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and move a minimum of 100 lbs.
- This is a physical job – must have a willingness to work with some physical risk while observing proper safety procedures

Hours, Benefits & Compensation
Unpaid internship. 15 - 30 hours a week, including weekends.
